The Great Norwegian Encyclopedia (Store norske leksikon, SNL) is Norway’s national encyclopedia. The SNL was founded in 1906. From 2015 the encyclopedia is owned by an association where the Norwegian universities and several non profit organisations are members. The SNL has a staff of 16. The encyclopedia is updated by 1200 affiliated topic experts, most are researchers at one of the universities. SNL is one of the most visited Norwegian content sites, with up to 3.5 million unique visitors per month. In 2023, the articles were read 114 million times.
